Powerfully You
Compassionate Self-Regulation Education

Providing pediatric health and wellness professionals with curriculum, training, and tools so you can confidently embody and teach self-regulation strategies.

Powerfully You teaches research informed self-regulation strategies through online training and curriculum. Powerfully You values individual differences and focuses on building awareness using trauma sensitive, kid friendly activities and practices.

Powerfully You was created to give every child (and adult) compassionate self-regulation strategies that can be used for their lifetime.

How is Powerfully You different from other social emotional learning curriculums?

Self-regulation underlies all behavior, social-emotional skills, and academic learning. When we are very young, development of self-regulation begins within connected relationships that provide us with a sense of safety. We cannot build healthy regulation patterns without those connections.

The foundation of our ability to self-regulate comes from us understanding our own body signals (a sense called interoception).  This “body sensing” is a skill utilized in focused attention practices, and Powerfully You introduces this form of mindful awareness through fun experiments that are kid friendly and easily adapted to your setting and the needs of your clients.

Powerfully You starts from the bottom up, strengthening the foundation of self regulation through activities that build interoceptive awareness.

In addition, Powerfully You teaches research based tools: sensorimotor strategies, awareness of physiological needs, positive thought based strategies, and inquiry based cognitive behavioral strategies.

Continuing Education for Understanding Self Regulation

Children who are struggling with self-regulation present in a variety of ways. They might have:

  • Difficulty with transitions

  • Social challenges

  • Difficulty regulating strong emotions

  • Energy level and attention that are frequently a mismatch for the situation

  • Explosive or extreme reactions

  • Difficulty meeting behavioral expectations (even with clear consequences set and followed).

  • Unwillingness to try new things or difficulties with changes in their routine

  • Difficulty focusing on a task

  • Reactions that don’t appear to match the situation

  • An appearance of being disengaged or unmotivated

  • Challenges using language and logical thinking

These children don’t need a behavior management plan — they need connection, awareness of their own body states, and tools that work for them.

As professionals working with these children, we need the knowledge and tools to help them. We need an understanding of:

  • Arousal

  • State Regulation

  • Co-regulation

  • Sensorimotor tools

  • How sensory modulation and sensory discrimination contribute to regulation

  • The neurophysiology of felt safety

Powerfully You Emphasizes Compassion and Connection

Powerfully You embraces the current behavioral neuroscience research that shows self-compassion is more effective than increasing self-esteem, using punishment, or engaging in self-criticism.

When children have a compassionate understanding of their own feelings, emotions, and needs, AND have tools to meet these needs, they can be adaptable and aware of the needs of others.

Neurodivergent individuals are teaching us all about the dangers of implementing behavior management protocols, and Powerfully You provides you with an alternative that is research driven and trauma informed. Powerfully You not only respects, but embraces, the individual differences of each client.

When we know better, we must do better.

Powerfully You views the whole person with compassion, curiosity, and a non-judgmental frame of reference. We’ve incorporated scientifically accurate, kid-friendly language in this inclusive curriculum for the classroom or the clinic.

Together, we’re changing self-regulation education.

The Powerfully You training provides the knowledge and tools to implement self regulation interventions.

Powerfully You seeks to create a community of helpers who see both children and adults from a whole-person perspective. When the helpers understand their own regulation they will be better able to come alongside clients and their families to offer tools and support.

The Occupational Therapists Behind Powerfully You

Hi y'all! We’re Amy and Heather. OTs who are passionate about pediatric therapy and empowering children.

We’ve worked extensively with kids in OT clinics, homes, schools, and the community. After many years of practice we found ourselves wanting a self-regulation curriculum that addressed the foundations of regulation and used language and tools that support individual differences.

We were inspired to create something different. Something that supported therapists, educators, and families who desired to teach self-regulation in a compassionate and accepting way. We also knew we wanted the curriculum to be affordable and accessible for equitable access.

Most of all, we wanted a curriculum that always reflected the latest research and language — because when we know better, we must do better. We are lifelong learners and teachers.

That’s why Powerfully You was created. It’s trauma-informed, child-friendly, and based on the latest in neuroscience research.

We hope you’ll join us in our mission to empower all children with compassionate self-regulation skills.

LET’S CHANGE THE WAY WE LOOK AT BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT IN THE CLINIC, CLASSROOM, AND HOME BASED SETTING.

Powerfully You teaches self-regulation through a lens of non-judgment and compassion with an emphasis on the value of individual differences and connection. We look forward to working with you!
